Swedish success results in all time high revenue and profit

Published: 12-04-2016

Top and bottom lines ended at a record level for NIRAS, which started its ambitious growth strategy with several acquisitions in 2015 . The aim is in particular to be bigger in Norway and Sweden

With strong results in the Swedish and Norwegian markets and from project management assignments, NIRAS ended 2015 with its best results ever. Both revenue and earnings figures have set new records. Own production exceeded DKK one billion. The profit from operating activities (EBITA) finished at DKK 51.2 million, and the profit after tax was DKK 36.2 million.

Increased focus on projects and increased risk management have had a positive effect. In 2015, NIRAS did not see any large loss-making projects. Therefore, almost all Danish business units have had good results. In 2015, NIRAS's Swedish company together with the development projects unit, attained the strongest earnings in the group.

Effects of the turn-around

"It is the first year in which we are seeing the full effect of the turn-around that we executed on the Swedish market. Only three years ago we had losses; now the Swedish units provide the highest profits per employee. All along the way, we have always stuck to our Scandinavian strategy, and now we are ready to move up another gear," says NIRAS' CEO, Carsten Toft Boesen.

He expects that NIRAS will be larger in both Sweden and Norway over the coming years, both through organic growth and acquisitions. NIRAS has already started its growth strategy. With the acquisition of ENSI in Oslo, NIRAS strengthened its position in Norway. In September, FM Konsulterna, headquartered in Gothenburg and specialised in building owner consultancy, became part of NIRAS. Shortly before Newyear, Indevelop, one of Sweden's largest players in the field of development projects, was acquired. Thus NIRAS consolidated its position as the largest of its kind on the market in Scandinavia. At the end of 2015, NIRAS had 1488 employees.

Four offices relocate

"We will continue growing. Already now, the cooperation between our specialists across Scandinavia is strong. Our customers get access to some of Scandinavia's best professionals in a wide range of fields, regardless of where they are located. This benefits our customers, ensures great employee development, and gives us a sound business," says Carsten Toft Boesen. Danish employees and customers will also notice growth in 2016. In both Aarhus, Aalborg, Esbjerg and Odense, NIRAS has outgrown its existing offices and will move to new premises in the course of the year, and the head office in Allerød will be expanded by 20 per cent.
